Tokaj, Hungary
The Tokaj wine region, which occupies 5,500 hectares of the current Hungarian northeast and was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2002. We could fill many pages with all the wines from this region but in regard to sweets, Hungary has name: Eszencia Aszú. Made from the Furmint and Hárslevelü varieties, the nectar of the gods in the process helps the botrytis cinerea and has become famous for its puttonyos (baskets that give name to certain categories of Aszú) and be considered as an immortal wine according to ancient Russian Czars. Not for nothing on their labels regum Vinum reads the sentence, rex vinorum (wine of kings and king of wines), attributed to King Louis XIV of France.
